Running Manual Scans

Manual scans let you check your site’s security on demand. Use them for routine audits, after content imports, or when you suspect a security issue.

Starting a Manual Scan #

1. Navigate to Content Guard Pro → Scans
2. Choose your scan mode:
Quick Scan: Posts and pages only
Standard Scan: Posts, meta, and options
3. Click Start Scan

Scan Controls #

During an active scan, you have these controls:

Pause Scan #

Click Pause to temporarily stop the scan. The scan state is saved, and you can resume later. Useful when:

  • You need to perform other admin tasks
  • The site is experiencing high load
  • You want to check interim results

Resume Scan #

Click Resume to continue a paused scan from where it left off. No data is lost, and previously scanned items won’t be re-scanned.

Cancel Scan #

Click Cancel to stop the scan completely. Findings detected up to that point are saved, but the scan won’t resume.

Scan Progress Information #

The progress panel shows:

Metric Description
——– ————-
Progress % Percentage of items scanned
Items Count of items scanned vs. total
Current Phase What’s being scanned (posts/meta/options)
Findings Number of issues found so far
Time Elapsed How long the scan has been running
ETA Estimated time to completion

Performance Metrics #

  • Memory: Current memory usage (watch for high values)
  • Query Time: Average database query time
  • Batch Rate: Items processed per second

When to Run Manual Scans #

Recommended Scenarios #

  • After content migration: When importing posts from another site
  • After plugin updates: Especially plugins that modify content
  • After theme changes: Some themes inject content
  • Suspected compromise: If you notice suspicious behavior
  • Monthly audit: Even with scheduled scans, periodic full audits help

Before Running a Scan #

Consider these factors:

1. Site traffic: Run during low-traffic periods for better performance
2. Hosting resources: Shared hosting may need Safe Mode
3. Content volume: Large sites take longer; plan accordingly
4. Backup status: Ensure recent backup exists before making changes

Scan History #

View previous scans at Content Guard Pro → Scans:

  • Date/Time: When the scan ran
  • Mode: Quick or Standard
  • Duration: How long it took
  • Items Scanned: Total content checked
  • Findings: Number of issues found
  • Status: Completed, Cancelled, or Failed

Click any scan to view its detailed findings.

Tips for Effective Manual Scanning #

1. Start with Quick Scan for routine checks
2. Use Standard Scan after suspected issues
3. Check findings immediately after scan completes
4. Enable notifications so you don’t miss critical findings
5. Schedule regular scans to avoid relying on manual scans alone
